Hey Mike and John,
I was a pleasure to meet both of you here in Fort Bragg and it was fun to interview you for the paper. Look for the write up in Oct. 20 edition of the Mendocino Beacon and Advocate News.
I have some suggestions for places to stay in Nicaragua. You will be passing through the town I lived in called Ciudad Dario in Matagalpa. Go into town there and ask anyone for the Sala Infantile or SOL. They will point you to the right place. Pat Rickon in the director there and they have rooms, showers and kitchen facilities. If I know when you are going to be there maybe I can come and meet you and show you around the country.
All the best on your travels.
James
-James Humecky

I enjoyed hosting your stop in L.A. It was a great week. Just to re-cap: "Little Bar" = Big Fun, Pink's chili dogs are not worth the wait, most entertaining night of karaoke ever made possible by two coked up strippers one Japanese cowboy and 5 or 6 crazy people, breaking into a fire station to rescue the bikes, lunch with Barbara and Richard, Warriors lose to Bulls, the Snake Pit Ale House threatens to 86 us for life followed by more karaoke, 99 cent store hot dog buns, catch the fever of Laguna Beach, a night with Eric Lautz (enough said), the super bowl of shit party (Niners vs. Bears) and Chicago Pizza, BBQ's, Danny Bonaduce working the door at "The Spazmatics": greatest 80's tribute band ever, "Bubba Ho-Tep", Warriors beat the Bulls!, and the 100 degree send off down Melrose. Great week guys! See you in Cabo!

What a great adventure! Good Luck, LiveStrong and Ride Hard!
An even better mission. I am facing brain surgery in a few days to determine what exactly the new area of tumor growth in my head is. I have been at this for almost eight years. In 2004 I was healthy enough for my own grand adventure, the Tour of Hope. I was a member of the National team.
Wish I was riding with you! Next time you have a major climb I will be there with you in spirit!

Best Wishes,

I wasn't sure if you guys were ever going to realize your dream, but since you have, I'm infinetly impressed. I am still in Hanoi, Vietnam where my trusty Honda Wave carries me through my adventures. The other day we drove over these mountains to this ethnic village near the Lao border, and since then, I have had an urge to just keep driving into Lao and beyond. Continue on my sweet sweet potatoes, and I hope we can meet up in Europe next summer. Until then, ride or die.
BEN Parker
-Ben Parker
I hope that you and John are well. What you guys are doing is beautiful, absolutely beautiful. I'm coming to San Fran on the 26th, had nearly forgotten you were on this trip...was about to phone you. I'm posting this website to a few cancer support groups to help you raise money. I'm also going to make a deposit when I get my financial aid next semester. I hope that it helps some, if any.
Please call me if you get a chance and stay safe, both of you!
Merry Christmas!

Nate - Saw the video -segment 1 from L.A. to Cabo- It was great and your style is real loose but is from the heart and I like what you say. Your two riding companions, John and Mike seem real cool and good companions for such a trek. If I don't catch you have a merry Xmas and Chanukah - Luv

How are the armadillos treating you?? (both kinds)
enjoy.
I totally know how you guys feel. My bike got a flat the other day and I had to walk it a whole four blocks back to my house if you can believe it! I know what you guys are dealing with is kind of rough, but seriously, those were a long four blocks. I bet your situation doesn't seem so bad now, huh?
-Mike French
Hi Mike-Glad you are back on the road-what an adventure and your episodes are just great . I tell everyone about your adventure and hope they give you some support. Keep the bikes healthy and be safe. Katie's Gram
-Joan Bock
Thinking of you guys and just want to wish you all a safe journey down the asphalt. Keep up the good peddlin. Watch out for the trucks and speeders. Curious how you "flip people off" in Mexican.
-Senior Ajello
I'm a journalist from Argentina working in a small newspaper. It's beatiful your sacrifice. We are expecting you in my country.
-Marcela
So far, do you prefer curious Alaskan bears or the birds of the Mexican jungles? Your stories are encouraging to read ... no need to get cranky over San Francisco traffic when I think of what you two are doing ...
-Jennifer Neale
We want to thank each and everyone who has left us words of encouragement. Your thoughts and well wishes truly keep us going though our hardest times. So again, thank you all! Its getting dark in Melanque and we need to find a safe place in the jungle or on the beach to setup camp, so that is all from down south. Adios!
-Mike Logsdon
OK, the Darlling family is skiing at Tahoe and thinking of you guys. Francisca and Max will be in Santiago soon so stop by for a Pisco Sour.

we checked out the roads in patagonia for you, and are all back now in fine health. be sure to ask who caught the largest fish at maria behety. good luck on your ride and keep the journal up, its great reading. Look for nandu on the menu as you move south, much easier to digest than chico fruit
-george boscoe
Guys----Judy and I just returned from a month in Chile and Argentina, scouting your route and catching a few giant trout in the process. You will love this part of the world--- much of the riding is flat and the shoulders are very wide on the PanAmerican Hwy. We hunger for updates, pictures, videos and your great naratives, but know that it is not easy to ride 100 miles, set up camp, cook dinner, split the wood for the fire, set up your chewbacabra defenses and then compose a few pages of deathless prose; to say nothing of the hassel of finding an internet connection in the middle of the desert or jungle.
We hope that John survives his encounter with the evil seed and that the bikes hold together for another 9,000 miles. Remember that you are our heroes and that we love you a bunch. Jean is watching over you and is full of pride and admiration for what you are doing.
Love to you both,
Dad and Judy
-Jim Logsdon
We've been following your journey since meeting you at Half Moon Bay... many moons and miles ago. You guys are incredible and your mom is smiling down on you. We're all out here pulling for you... especially on those hills. So here's to tailwinds and downhill roads. Happy trails and we'll look forward to sharing an ale with you again someday and hear some wild cycling tales. Thanks for posting the link to Sandy's website. Take care and don't forget to keep the rubber side down!
-Sandy Beardsley and Dan O'Connor
Guys---It's great to hear that you are still in possession of most of your major parts, even though you seem to have lost a good bit of the contents to those Aztec Gods who are still irritated about what the Spanish did to Monteczuma. I recon that the riding you just finished was far worse than Baja and having seen some of that shoulderless, semi-verticle, headwind-plagued stretch, I must give you high marks for conquering something much worse with the added burden of illness and crash damage. I don't know how you guys can just keep going, day after day, but my hat's off to you as usual.
Everyone I meet wants me to update them on your progress, so keep the info flowing.
Love, Dad
-Jim Logsdon
Mike and John - you are terrific guys - to do something like this in memory of your Mother. Keep it up, the news of your trip is spreading to Indiana because of some wonderful friends you have here. Joan B. introduced me to your site - and my prayers will be with you. Good luck and stay safe!

John, I hope your bike was repaired correctly.
We're just about to end 2 weeks in Puerto Vallarta and San Pancho, aka San Francisco. Richard drove between SF/San Blass on Rt. 200 and was appalled at all the trucks and the lack of shoulder. You guys: cuidado!!!!
Can't wait to read your book(s) about your adventures.
Happy Valentine's to you both.
Love,

Dearest Nephews and Nate: What a GREAT video -- we were pulling for the mail delivery there in Mazatlan! Mike, our eyes were watering as you CONTINUED to much on that Jabenero (sp?) pepper. You obviously WERE bored! Oh to be young, strong and full of the spirit of adventure, and a stomach of STEEL! You three have tugged at our heart strings. We are so very proud to say that you are blood and now Nate has joined our CRAZY family. We will look so forward to seeing you all here in Bend. The yearly Pull, Paddle, Pole even awaits you as does Survivor. Lots and lots of love, Demaris & Kent xoxo

-Mike French
Dear John and Mike,
I stumbled across your website while helping my 16 year old son do some research on a cross-country bike trip (SF to Boston) he hopes to make this summer. I was so impressed, inspired and moved by your endeavor that I had to send you an email and tell you both that while we may be watching the Olympics these days it is athletes like yourselves who are the real heroes if you ask me. As the mother of two wonderful boys (16 + 20) I take can feel the pride and joy that your mother must be experiencing in some way.
-Kate Weese
You guys are awesome! USA number 1! Don't stop until you reach the ocean.
-The Reverend Samuel Rudolph
I managed to send you a message with no message. How cool is that? I think I have my fingers under control now. I loved today's entry!. Your writing is just getting better and better. I am convinced that you and John are both gifted writers and Nate's videography is so good that it feels like we are with you. I am so proud of what you guys are doing and how articulate you are in the telling of your experiences. What an amazing trek! We love you dearly. Stay safe and don't get crossways with drunks hunting rats!
Love,
-Judy
Hi, Boys. You sure are having adventures! Richard and I had a lovely dinner with Jim and Judy last Saturday, celebrating Jim's and Richard's birthdays. Noel and Andy Weidkamp joined in the festivities. We hope the rest of your journey goes well, and is gun-free.

Men:
BRAVO !!!
I have often said that you guys are my heroes and have aplauded your courage, compassion, cool under fire and willingness to put yourselves in harm's way to help others. So, I am not surprised at the risks you took to save the machete victim, but I am impressed and a very proud Papa. Worried, but very proud.
May the memory of you Mom and the lessons she taught continue to guide you.
Love, Dad
-Jim Logsdon

namely, our young but astute professors from the mountains of chaipis who gave us all a crash course in basic mayan while we feasted on strange edible plants from the forest and drank away the cold with large mugs of fresh coffee. midnight in the mountains, its not an experience to be missed. Thanks to the two little vaqueros who helped us out with some sugar cane outside puerto vallarta. I also wanted to give a shout out to circus boy- you may have been born and raised on a traveling circus bus criss-crossing the world but that doesn´t mean you have to act like it. To all the small, giggling and inquisitive children of mexico, your spirit is infectious, thank you. To the meyer women, you may be small but you have big hearts. Big love, thanks for your support and encouragement!

GLOBALIZATION BEGATS DIPOSABILITION.
Although I made up that word, you get my drift. It's a small world after all. All consumable items have short lives these days, no matter where you are.
Good luck on the second half of your journey.

You are KEEEEEING us dear nephews. What a priceless adventure. You are living the dream the WE can only live through your journals and photos. Your journaling is AMAZING, we feel as if we are riding right along with you. Keep on making those wheels go round and round and return safely to the good ole United States. We love you, Auntie Demairs and Uncle Kent xoxoxo
-Kent & Demaris Walton
Congrats on reaching the halfway point in your trip. All three of you should take great pride in your accomplishment. We had a great weekend in SF w/Katie and she is doing fine. She gave us a great tour of your city! Continue to be safe and ride hard. This is the experience of a lifetime and I hope you enjoy the journey. I will spread the word about your trip and your mission to friends in CO and IN. Love your stories from the road. Take care. Katie's mom

Is Monteverde where they have the butterfly "reserve"? I seem to remember some gorgeous blue ones.
Do you have the info I e-mailed you when you were in Mexico, advising of some contacts in Ecuador? Let me know if you want me to dig it up and send it again. Jimbo isn't sure. Please provide an up-to-date e-mail address if you do want it re-sent.
Stay well and healthy and believing in what you are doing. It's a great cause.
Barbara (& Richard)
-Barbara Walton
Dear John, Mike and entourage,
We thought of you as we rode in the van up that same road to Monteverde. We were hoping you would not take that same route as it was nearly intolerable in a vehicle. We have been so impressed with your efforts thus far, but having been up that horrendous road only days before you, gives us a new level of respect. We hope you find Costa Rica as incredible as we did. Still so sad and sorry we could not meet up with you and put some extra fuel in your tank. We loved Johnnys pizza in Monteverde. Send us the bill!
Our love and best wishes to you for continued safe and rewarding travel. You guys are super heros to us all.

Happy Easter! Richard is about to depart to be campground host at Sinkyone Wilderness Park west of Garberville for the rest of April. A&Z were going to join us and then give me a ride home Easter night because I have chemo again on Monday. But they had to cancel because Zach has to prepare a motion all weekend for court on Monday. (Law school anyone??) Therefore I can't go either so we'll all be having Easter separately. The kids hope to join R next weekend and I the last week in April -- it's really a beautiful place and we look forward to being together there. I haven't stayed there since Sena Weidkamp was a baby, and she's 27 now! This time I'll be sleeping in a bed with a real bathroom nearby. Huzzah!
We look forward to your adventures and a description of how Easter is observed in SA.
Love,

Happy Easter to all of you boys.
May God watch over you in the days ahead and help you ride faster - you have to be so tired!
We are proud of you!

Sorry about that triple hit - I didn't think it went through and hit it again - oh well - it never hurts to say we're proud of you 3 times!
-Katie's Aunt Nancy
Happy Easter-hope you have some nice level, smooth roads today. Had a wonderful time with Katie and family in Florida last week. Her mood sure changed after that telephone call. We wish you a safe, blessed holiday. Keep sending your stories-they're great. Congratulations on eight thousand miles. We're still telling your story and asking people to check your web site. Stay safe! Katies Gram
-Joan Bock
I can't say thank you enough for all the support and encouragement you provide... It really does mean the world to me and the guys. Thanks.
-Mike Logsdon
Wanted to send Easter greetings to you, John and Nate. Your determination is an inspiration to me and I'm sure your mom is smiling at you. Katie said she is bringing you books to replace the ones that got wet in the river crossing. We are looking forward to the rendevous in Quito and, maybe, some new pictures. Stay safe and know that so many people are supporting your effort Love you!.
-Katie's Mom
John and Mike, you guys are awesome. It's taken me 8,127 of your miles for me to catch up on your adventure, but I'm loving every bit of reading and watching the website. It's nice to know that some things never change, like your unmatched sense of adventure, and the prevalence of machete wielding bandits in South America. I don't know how you guys have avoided a desk job for so long, but keep it up, and the rest of us will live vicariously through you. May you find yourselves cruising down the Chilean coast before you know it.
-Donald
You guys are amazing. Joan Bock was tell me about what you are doing and the dedication you have. I have passed it on to several others as well. I will keep you in our prayers and continue to look at updates posted here. God Bless! Keep up the hard work.
-Stephanie Yoder
John, after reading about how affordable your medical treatment was I have decided to take a little day trip down to Tijuana for my regular "turn your head and cough". Thanks for alerting me to such a bargain!

Keep going and going. I left part of my soul in one of those "watertight" BOB bags. Perhaps I shall meet back up for it before too long.
-Blake
I finally saw a reference to you hooking up with Brooks and Gregg. I will take a weekend and read all the news. Hugh has a house nearly built in Homer with EMily and Brian learning all aspects of construction. We hope you make it back to Alaska .
The reference on their site. Your site is awesome. WOW
Being followed by the paparazzi crew made it easy to forget that we were actually climbing over 7000 feet to San Cristobal de las Casas, the town that was taken over during a Zapatista uprising in 1994. En route, we bumped into Mike & John (spinningsouthward.com) and their entourage in a memorable meeting of cyclists heading to South America.
-Mombo K
Mikey!! Just a quick note to say that I'm thinking about you much and hope you're safe. I will try to phone you soon!

OH MY GAWD -- you guys are soooooo AMAZING! You are living life to the fullest and making us ALL look like a herd of WHIMPS! Your dear mother is smiling down on you, I just know it. You are doing EXACTLY what your Mom would have wanted you to do, she lives on in her two "boys"!!! It has to be the same for Nate's mother. Thanks for sharing your exciting adventures with us. We hang on each and every, well written, word. You have made us MORE than proud. Your Auntie and Uncle send you our love and admiration, Demaris & Kent xoxoxox

Mike and John, Six months ago we met you at Half Moon Bay. Sandy had just had surgery to remove a brain tumor. She is doing great, but unfortunately we are back here at Stanford from our home in Washington because her latest MRI showed a new brain tumor. She will have surgery again on May 15. But in a bit of good timing, there is the "Angel Adventure" walk tomorrow in San Franciso to raise money for the NBTF... we're signed up and ready to walk! So you guys keep riding strong and together we can all help win this battle. What a joy to watch you experiencing this beautiful world and people through your incredible adventure! Here's wishing you tailwinds always!

I've noticed there have been a lot of xxxooo's going around in recent comments so here's a few from me. XXXXXOOOO, and a couple of these, YYYYYY!!!!
-Mike French
For those of you who have not traveled to some far corner of the globe to visit with and encourage Team Spinning Southward, let me say that you are missing the opportunity of a lifetime. Meet them anywhere along the way and provide a hot shower, a soft bed, a roof, a hot meal, a beer or just an attaboys and they will be eating out of your hand---literally. Jack Fallin, Don Ajello and I dropped in on the guys in Quito last week and had the time of our lives. Quito, Equador and the Equadorians were great fun, but the highlight of our trip was being around our sons and their wonderful women, Melody and Katie. John, Mike and Nate go about their project with grace, dignity and a fierce tenacity that left us mere mortals full of envy and respect. Catch up with them if you can---you will thank me for the suggestion.

What a beautiful way to keep your mother's spirit and memory alive! I was researching brain tumor organizations recently, after having my father recently die of brain cancer. My hope is to also keep his memory alive by starting an annual fundraiser for brain tumor research. You two are an inspiration for me. Stay safe. I am sure your mother is so proud!

I've been keeping up with your trek since late last year. I am very proud of you all for your fortitude and courage. It's easy to say you want to do something of this magnitude - it's quite another to actually be doing it. It's the event of a lifetime and you have enough stories to last at least that long!

Mike and John,
Fuck yeah bro's!! Just wanted to give you guys a shot out! What you guys are doing is probally the most amazing thing I have ever heard of!!
-John Klabau
Klay,
Thanks for the shot out! We love it when we check in with the site and get some solid words like that. We look forward to seeing you down in L.B.
-Spinning Southward
What in the HECK is a "shot out"? Is it a drink, does it come from a rifle, is it an injection, is it something in the dark? What is it? We want one!!!
Hey, we are still following you two now. Where is Mike and how is that knee? Sending our positive, loving thoughts as you near the finish line. We love you and look forward to seeing you here in BEAUTIFUL Bend.
Lots of love, Auntie D. and Uncle Kent xoxoxo
-Auntie Demaris
The deserts of southern Peru are proving to long and desert like for John and Nate... and it's sad to say that many hundreds of miles of parched earth lay ahead. As for me, my knee should be back up to speed in a few days time. Fingers crossed. But thank you for the well wishes! We all love to hear from you and Kent.
-Mike Logsdon
Take care of that knee, Mike. You don't want to miss out on the last 4800 miles of fun! Our thoughts and prayers are w/ you, John and Nate as you enter into the home stretch. We continue to spread the word about your trip and encourage people to give to your cause. Best of luck and nurse that knee back to health! Love and best wishes to all of you! Katie's mom and dad

A WORLD OF HOPE- By Kirsten Gould
I hold in my hand
A world of hope,
A world of peace,
A world to cope.
In this world are many treasures,
Happiness, joy and lots of pleasures.
You'll never hear a discouraging word,
Only compliments will be heard.
Diseaase is foreign in this place,
Unhappy frowns aren't seen on any face.
Summer and flowers are always in bloom,
There's never a single could of gloom.
Follow the rainbow and you will find,
This life full of wonders of every kind.
I hold in my hand
A world of hope,
A world of peach,
A world to cope.
This poem was written by my 13 year old cousin three months before she lost her battle with bone cancer. Thank you Mike and John for making a difference and bringing us along for the ride. Keep up the good work! God Bless.
-Kortney Jamtaas
So very happy to learn that your knee, with so many miles on it, is ready once again to pump away! We send our loving, happy, healing thoughts to you, John and Nate. Stay well, safe and happy and feel the love, Auntie D. and Uncle Kent

It was great hearing your voice via computer. Matthys would be very happy if you guys managed to find your way to his 600 hect acres (about 2000 acres I think) in Padagonia. The last town is called Raul Marine. You need to take an overnight boat from Porta Monte, which I think goes twice a week. Once in Raul Marine ask for a bearded gringo who looks like a mountain man and goes by the name of Mateo and lives in the bush. The police know him because he has had lots of stuff stolen while he is away. He usually hires a small boat to take him to the land, so no doubt they know him at the waterfront. You may be able to contact him via email, because he ocassionally comes out of the wilderness. His address is globetrottter@hotmail.com (THREE t's in globetrottter. someone else got the normal spelling) If you try to get him via internet, do so on more than one ocassion. Because he so infrequently gets to open his mail, lots of it gets kicked out. I hope the rest of your trip is filled with adventures and is without mis-adventures.
-Jeanette
Hello our dear nephews and Nate. Only 4,327.4 miles to grind out! How many times have you wished for a tow??? Who knew that three guys would make such an impression on the masses? You are AWESOME! When will you cross that finish line? Come to Bend to meet the other Nate. Missing you and sending you our positive, loving, happy, proud vibrations. Lots of love, K & D

We just returned 10 days early from our Scandinavian trip due to my medical emergency requiring 2-1/2 days in Stockholm hospital and 7 units of blood. Thank heavens you are not having those kinds of problems in the middle of nowhere. Thanks for keeping us all posted with such colorful writing. You make us feel like we're pedaling shotgun. All best wishes for fun and safety and successful fundraising the rest of the way.
Fondly,
Barbara (& Richard)

I'm pleased to learn that you are all able to ride, even though it's not much fun our there in the alternately burning and freezing hell of the Southern Deserts. Everyone in Orinda asks about how you are doing and I tell a few stories and refer them to the web-site, but not all of our friends are comfortable in cyber-space. You got a half page mention in the Annual Diablo Magazine and they got all your info and web-site correct. Your Chicago cousins arrive tonight for a two month stay and Miss Judy is all a-twitter. Tomorrow we will host a batch of soccer fans for The Finals. I am rooting for Zidane and his mates. Keep well or at least weller.
Love, Dad

Hey, Guys. I'm so proud of you and fascinated by all your adventures. As we told you before, Richard and I loved Ecuador too. The Inca inn we stayed in up in the mountains reportedly had a great view of Cotapaxi, but it was always enshrouded by clouds. We loved Quito and Cuenca, and Riobamba is where Richard rode on the TOP of the boxcar of the train, which only went off the tracks 3 times!!! We always recommend Ecuador as one of the most interesting places we've ever visited.
This weekend is the Relay for Life for the American Cancer Society. You were there years ago for it. There's a chance that Jimbo, Judy, Alex and Jimmy, and Mike French might be there this year. Alexandria and Zach will come, too.
So we're all doing our bit to stomp out The Big C, but your way is so much more exciting!
Think of Alexandria's junior year in Chile when you get to Santiago. You'll love Torres del Paine at the southern tip -- hope it's not too snowy...
Be well and happy and keep us posted.
Love,
Barbara
-Barbara Walton

Holy Mackerel!! Reading about your ride from Los Andes to Portillo left me exhausted and and glad I don't have to get up in the morning and continue on to Mendoza.
Do you know your route for the next 1,440 miles? I can't try to make a plan for intersecting with you if I don't even know what airport equipped cities you will pass through.
Love---Dad
-Jim Logsdon
In the time it took you to ride between Boca De Tomatlan, Mexico, and Copiopo, Chile, my dear friend was diagnosed, treated and passed away from a GBM brain tumor. I am so touched by what you guys are doing, and by all the support that is pouring your way. Best of luck on the rest of your trip, and enjoy the victory laps.
-stephanie in san francisco
DAMN your journals, photos and videos are AWESOME. Your OLD Auntie is confined to the bed right now with a back injury. I CAN stand so I am writing to you from on high. You guys are our world famous nephews with a grand cause and Nate too. Thank you for being the good humans that you are. Keep grinding out the miles and enjoy the ride. Lots of love & admiration, K & D
-Auntie Demaris & Uncle Kent
Hola: Did Nate raise enough funds for a new bike. Can we help now or is he still riding along with you? I'm off to the doctor. Stay safe. Lots of Love, Auntie
-Auntie Demaris
Hey, please contact me, regarding Nate's ride, at kwalt55@aol.com xoxoxo
-Auntie Demaris
My dad started chemo and radiation this last week and someone stopped by our store in Frisco, CO. I was in Denver and missed them. Then I lost the note they left...I would love to get in touch with them. If this is making any sense would they contact me at bag_e_b@yahoo.com that would be great. My dad loves seeing the pictures from your trip. He's getting very sick from the chemo so I think they make him feel better. Thank you for stopping by...:)
-Beth Garst
Wow that looks cold! I experienced shrinkage just looking at those pictures. Sorry brain tumor foundation!
-Mike French
I read about Nates' bicycle issue and responded as instructed but have not heard anything from anybody. Are you still trying to replace the bike?
ramirezj1955@sbcglobal.net
-Julene Ramirez
Mike, I am so impressed with you guys! We are also in Argentina now (S.C de Bariloche). I thought we might run into you but we left Mendoza about a week and a half ago and head back to Buenos Aires in a couple days. But we have been reading about your journeys and wanted to send our love and prayers your way. Enjoy and be safe!!
-Katie (Montgomery) Branagh
Whenever it gets too hot here in Napa, I just look at the photos of you Stalwarts bicycling through the snow-covered Andes. Can't believe you have less than 1,000 miles to go. That's amazing!
Richard comes home from China on Tuesday. Last week in the world's airports there was more drama and danger and difficulty than even you gentlemen are facing. Hope he has no trouble.
I have really enjoyed the photos. Keep up the good work for a great cause!
Barbara
-Barbara Walton
I am guessing that Jimbo is on his way with Wilson and the banner. The scone man is in Homer with Julia and Em and i am home getting your stories through your awesome site and documentary. We will be celebrating your safe return when we hear from you personally - that means a phone call from - you got it Santa Barabara the namesake to our room we have for your arrival in 07. Of course we figure we'll have a private viewing of the documentary and hear all the stories over halibut, espresso and scones. Love the Mombo K and the scone man.....
-Mombo K
I would like to thank all of you from the bottom of my heart who replied to the ¨Nate´s Second Chance Bike Fund,¨ and I´m pleased to announce that I have replenished the amount that I have spent. Very soon after I posted my desperate plea for help letters came pouring in that offered support for my bicycle dilema, which really shows me how much people out there care not just about our cause and what we´re doing, but us as well, so thank you. We our very close to our goal now, but it seems as if we may have reached the hardest part of our trip yet in sub zero temperatures and brutal headwinds. I would be in some serious trouble now if not for your help and support.
I send my deepest gratitude to you all, and I hold your love in my heart as I finnish this incredible journey.
-Nateon Ajello
Richard returned groggily but happily from China on Tuesday, and left on Thursday for a hiking trip in the Sierras which your dad couldn't go to because he's coming to see you next week at The Big Finish! I can't believe how far you've come. Thank you for sharing your adventures with us.
Barbara
PS: Isn't Bariloche lovely? Very Swiss-Alps like.

I was checking on your progress and seeing your home page dedication to my wife Sandy brought me to tears. We were both honored to have met you guys. I had been keeping Sandy updated on your progress right up to the end of her life. She was very happy you are getting close to your goal. To quote from the LiveStrong song... "Maybe tonight, maybe tomorrow, we’ll win this fight and bury this sorrow." So keep riding... keep riding.
-Dan O'Connor - for Sandy Beardsley
Not far now. Bear down and think of the victory celebration
with the Giant of Cotopaxi. I'd love to be there to watch the
last mile into Ushuaia.
Dick and Chris and Annelise
-Dick Jensen
Guys---Your mile counter does reflect how far you have traveled, but it misses how far you have to go by over750 miles. Can you change the counter?
-Jim Logsdon
Have not heard from you in a while Mikey. Hope all is well. Keep updating the site. and we look forward to your return.
-Jon and Janine
Hola Amigos! By now you must be pretty fluent in what is fast becoming the american national language! You will have a heads up on all the rest of us when you return!
Was impressed with what you are enduring to make this to the end...your determination is a wonderful tribute to what kind of person you are - I would trust you to be my friend (or nephew) anytime! Sorry for the sadness you are having to experience with the loss of your friend Sandy - but think how wonderful it was for her to know you were doing this not only for your Mom but for the many like her who will experience her same outcome until something comes along to make a difference - and you three boys are definitely making a difference.
Hurry and get home - we are all anxious to hug you!
-Katie's Aunt Nancy

The headlines read "Strong Quake Hits Mountainous Argentina". Now we know the Giant of Cotopaxi has arrived for sure. Feed him a few sea run Brown trout and the tremors will stop. I cant wait to see you guys after you finish your ordeal. Take care and good luck
-George Boscoe
Rock On

-Team Spinning Southward
Home stretch now. Got to be tough, with all that damn wind, but we know you'll make it fine.
There's a sort of all you can eat place in Ushuaia, that has a little asado inside and the beef and lamb is great . See if your Dad can remember where it is (on the main drag, not far from the prison). Go, go! to the fin del mundo!!!
-Dave and Sandy (Courtney Lane)
I am a guide at Maria Behety lodge. I fished with james this past season. Unfortunatelly i am in Buenos Aires at the moment, but my parents are in Estancia Jose Menendez, wich its located 15 kms south from Rio Grande on the way to Ushuaia. Good luck to you all.
By the way, great pictures.

We just returned from a week in Oregon, topped off by a fine visit with Kent & Demaris and Eric, Tracy, Cassidy and Nate. They are settled in the beautiful area of Bend and love being near each other.
And now you are near the Giant of Cotapaxi! (We stayed at an inn directly across from it but never saw it, so the innkeeper kindly sent us a book of photos later.) Congratulations to all of you for your endeavors on land and on "sea." ( Whatever floats your boat or 4x4!)
Congratulations to you all, and thanks so much for updating the photos and messages so we know things are OK. Stay warm and happy in the knowledge of all you've accomplished for a good cause. (I had chemo yesterday and one of the nurses' daughters works for SF office of Brain Tumor Institute in SF -- don't remember her name (chemo brain difficulties).
We leave for another Oregon adventure on Sunday and the Walton Family Fish-a-Thon, which we hope Jimbo will be back in time for with lots of first-hand stories of your time together in Argentina.
Again, congratulations and encouragement and love from
Barbara & Richard
PS: Alexandria and Zach just celebrated their first anniversary!
Miss you!

OUTSTANDING! BEYOND WORDS... Your mother still lives in you and travels upon your shoulders, what a legacy she has left for others to see. I just found your story at the end of your joureny, but this could never end. My Gradson 4yrs dx with magliant Tumor 5/06, fighting the fight as children do fearing nothing, our little cowboy had a dream that the horses came for him to go to the farm in the clouds. He told them not today! Two resections we are now no-op, enjoying smiles and crayons. We will read your adventures and print your pics thanking you for an adventure filled trip we can share with eger eyes. Hoping your stories give hope to a mom (your age) who sees life slipping away. Every end is just new begining. God Bless you and yours for such dedication to love....
-Lynn/Jason's Grammie
My father was diagnosed with a level 4 GBM tumor 2 years ago. His chances were slim, but he is now 6 months cancer free. As a "reward" we drove from Dallas to Anchorage. It's an incredible journey! Good Luck to all of you!

You cannot imagine how much I wish that I could be there to see your triumphant arrival in Ushuaia after all these months! I never had any doubt that you would complete this heroic ride and am so proud of you. This has to have been a life-changing experience, not only for you but to those that will reap the benefits of the research that your fund-raising will enable . I feel honored to have known and loved you and cannot wait for your safe return.
-Judy
When we first heard about your venture we had doubts about such a huge undertaking -believe me, we'll never doubt your words again. We can only imagine how many people will benefit from your efforts. We're sorry Katie won't be there for your finish. We'll be looking forward to pictures of the event-so wonderful for your Dad to be there! Congratulations! Katie's Gram
-Joan Bock
"Are we there yet?" The GIANT, ever faithful, Cotapaxi has given us such superb accounts of the final days of your journey -- now we know why you two have such a flair for writing. We are heading up your fan club when you arrive back in the wonderful United States Of America. You are just AWESOME! We are on your team. We'll be waving our banners, here in Bend, as you cross the finish lilne there in Ushuaia. Lots of love from two proud relatives sitting here, on our ever growing BIG ole backsides, watching football while you brave the elements. Lots of love to you and your team, Auntie Demaris & Uncle Kent xoxoxo
-Auntie Dee & Uncle Kent
As an avid cyclist, I have at least a small appreciation and understanding of the physical demands and determination you must have had to see this journey through. As a man who whose wife lost her battle with a brain tumor just a month ago, I have an even deeper and more profound appreciation of the true meaning, purpose and symbolism of your journey. I thank you for your efforts and will be forever grateful we all crossed paths at Half Moon Bay last November, right after my wife's first surgery. I can imagine Jean and Sandy are smiling down with a lot of love and admiration for you guys right now. With a humble tip of my bike helmet...
-Dan O'Connor - for Sandy Beardsley
Love the new pictures. Congratulations on finishing your trip! Very excited for you all.

Dear Mike John and Nate, Wish I was there to give you 3 a hug at the finish line. I am so proud of you and your trek. It is truly incredible. So glad I got to see you all in Quito. You have touched so many people here and abroad. All I can say is thank you and have a safe trip home.
-Dad Ajello
John, Mike and Nate swooped down out of the snowy mountains surrounding Ushuaia this afternoon and rolled into town as if it were just another Sunday ride. I am bursting with pride and filled with gratitude for their letting me be a part of their epic journey. I can think of no greater tribute to the memory of the good woman who nurtured them and loved them. Jean must be flapping her wings in joy and admiration. In her queit and understated way, she preached what her sons have practiced.
-Jim Logsdon
I'm proud of you guys!!! Congratulations!!! Hope to see you all soon!!!
-Mike French
Well done!
-Dick Jensen
CONGRATULATIONS! We are in awe of your accomplishments, and so grateful that you arrived safely at your goal/destination. You are super-heros to the Coupin boys...larger than life and always will be. You are more than that to me, who looks to guys like you for my sons to have as role models. I'll bring over oatmeal cookies as soon as I hear you are back in the neighborhood.
All our best!

-The Coupin Family
Mike,
I have tried several times to post a comment but whenever I read about your adventures and accomplishments I find myself speechless. Your efforts are truly inspiring and I can't think of a more beautiful and moving tribute to your mother than what you are doing. The next time you are in the Saint Louis area, Chris and I intend to buy you the biggest supreme pizza Breadaux has to offer. In fact, we are so proud of you, we will insist on buying you a desert pizza too!
Luv ya and best wishes to the Team

Hey Mike:
I can't tell from the log but am guessing you all made it to Tierra del Fuego.
Drop us a line when you get home. We moved down the hill to 46 Don Gabrie Way.
News from the 'Hood.
Went to a really nice party with the Boscoe's and found out where you got your 357 magnum.
Zac moved to Redding for a one year study program. He flies to Cornwall England to get engaged in 4 weeks.
She's cute.
Nik went totally ligit. He's working for Franklin/Templeton Funds in San Mateo, shooting for the rotational management program in November and has his Les Paul guitar goin in the 4 guys to a bachelor pad down by Candlestick park.
Danielle went to Dakar West Africa for 10 weeks to work in an Undercover Christian Orphanage that saves muslim boys out of slavery. I totally freaked out and said "NO your not going" (100 miles from Mauratania where 250,000 still live and are sold as slaves ... don't you think they'd like to get their hands on a couple of nice white girls). Anyway it worked out fine and she's back and they now have a mumps quarantine at her college in Illinois, Wheaton.
Abby just landed at the Beach Party School UCSB. Seems like they haven't corrupted her yet, but it's only been a week.
Want to see the slideshow of your exciting trip and adventures and would like to round up Nik & Zak for it. Drop us a line when you can.
Sincerely,
Randall Linton
-Randall Linton, Zac & Nic's dad
Wow fellas! So incredible!! I have been keeping up as Nate's docs stream along.. inspirational in many ways. You are GREAT examples of loving dedication, so so So Nice. Sounds like you have made it to your destination and surpassed the 50,000 mark. A lot of effort from many people with positive focus... Wow. Hello to you three, well done, & if there's an open celebration, I hope I can *Cheers* to you, your families & all efforts and successes in person. All the best~ Peace

It has been nearly 6 months since i've last seen you two (Laguna Quilatoa - Ecuador, short filipino kid at black sheep inn). You're stories are amazing! Wherever you two are right now, I'm sure you're making a tremendous difference.

O.K. -- your FATHER sent news of your continued road experience and now Katie has joined the MADNESS! Cudos to you both. We too have been deep into the Amazon, many moons ago -- croc hunting at midnight in a dug out canoe! Your spirits are incledible. Swing by Bend on your way home, you are welcome here. We love you and keep you in our very positive thoughts. Is Nate still with you? By the way, our grand baby Nathan will be one year old in November and Cassidy is in the firist grade.
